Thijs Porck is Universitair Hoofddocent middeleeuws Engels verbonden aan het Leiden Centre for the Arts in Society. Hij is een cultuurhistoricus van Engeland in de vroege Middeleeuwen. In zijn onderzoek staat de Oudengelse taal en literatuur centraal, alsook de wijze waarop men na de Middeleeuwen met dit vroegmiddeleeuwse erfgoed is omgegaan, zowel in de wetenschap als in de populaire cultuur. Hij publiceerde meerdere artikelen over de Beowulf, Oudengelse filologie, het werk van J. R. R. Tolkien en wetenschappelijke correspondentie. Zijn laatste boek is Old Age in Early Medieval England: A Cultural History (2019), de eerste monografie over de wijze waarop men in de vroege Middeleeuwen nadacht over ouderdom. Vanaf 1 januari 2024 leidt hij het ERC-project 'Early Medieval English in the Nineteenth Century [EMERGENCE]' (2024-2028)

Thijs Porck is Universitair Hoofddocent middeleeuws Engels verbonden aan het Leiden Centre for the Arts in Society. Hij is een cultuurhistoricus van Engeland in de vroege Middeleeuwen. In zijn onderzoek staat de Oudengelse taal en literatuur centraal, alsook de wijze waarop men na de Middeleeuwen met dit vroegmiddeleeuwse erfgoed is omgegaan, zowel in de wetenschap als in de populaire cultuur. Hij publiceerde meerdere artikelen over de Beowulf, Oudengelse filologie, het werk van J. R. R. Tolkien en wetenschappelijke correspondentie. Zijn laatste boek is Old Age in Early Medieval England: A Cultural History (2019), de eerste monografie over de wijze waarop men in de vroege Middeleeuwen nadacht over ouderdom. Vanaf 1 januari 2024 leidt hij het ERC-project 'Early Medieval English in the Nineteenth Century [EMERGENCE]' (2024-2028)
Sinds 2008 doceert Porck aan de Leidse universiteit. Zijn colleges gaan ondermeer over Oudengels, Middelengels, de fictie van J. R. R. Tolkien en de cultuurgeschiedenis van de Middeleeuwen. In 2014 won hij de Onderwijsprijs Geesteswetenschappen; in 2019 won hij de LUS Onderwijsprijs. Van 2021 tot 2023 was hij mede-voorzitter van de Leiden Teachers' Academy.
Naast onderzoek en onderwijs is Porck actief met wetenschapscommunicatie. Op sociale media bereikt hij een breed publiek middels Twitter, YouTube en zijn eigen weblog. Daarnaast gaf hij al meer dan 80 lezingen voor scholen, musea en studentenverenigingen. Hij is mede-oprichter van het Leiden Medievalists Blog, het Leiden Teachers Blog en de Podcast Middeleeuwse Toestanden. In 2020 won hij de LUCAS Publieksprijs.
