Alumni dreams #241
Pieter chose North America initially due to its global importance and the multicultural nature of the region. During his elective period he chose to focus on doing an internship at a nonprofit organization in Nijmegen called Cross Your Borders. They organized educational programs for high school students about subjects such as women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, abortion and climate change (to name a few).
Pieter started the internship at Cross Your Borders by predominantly speaking in front of classes, but then quickly transitioned into being a project coordinator. The internship was a highlight of his bachelor. He also looks back fondly on the PRINS project he did as part of his third year. The project case was about HIV in high-risk countries, and as a project leader he gained valuable experience working intensively with his group.
After graduation, Pieter took some time to find a job with societal impact. He started working as a project management trainee at the municipality of Dordrecht. After 1.5 years of working as a trainee, he was offered a fulltime position as a junior projectmanager. This is a role he still very much enjoys doing. He mainly works on projects related to sustainable mobility, greening street, logistics and area development.
Sounds like a great way to champion local impact Pieter, we look forward to seeing the real-time developments in Dordrecht!
