Museum Night

The 11th edition of Leiden Museum Night will take place on Saturday 18 May 2019. Nine museums will once again be opening their doors. As it is Leiden University’s 444th anniversary this year, we will be celebrating in style at the Academic Historical Museum.

Join in the celebrations!

Discover the Sweat Room, graffiti from 1865 and 15 new portraits of female professors in the Senate Chamber. Hear the beadle’s secret trick for calming nervous PhD candidates before they defend their thesis.

Leiden is 444 years old this year, so we are celebrating in style. This year you can attend lectures and exhibitions, have a tour of the Academic Historical Museum and enjoy a range of other cultural activities.

Come and join us

The night will officially be opened on Beestenmarkt. Visitors with a wristband will then have access to the participating museums. The Night Trail connects the museums, leading you from one exhibition, performance, workshop or lecture to another. The night will end with a bang at the after party. Buy your ticket in advance online and benefit from a discount.

Organised by students

Leiden Museum Night is the only museum night in the Netherlands that is organised by students, in the form of Leiden Museum Night Foundation. They work in collaboration with the city’s museums.

On 18 May, alongside the Academy Building, Hortus botanicus Leiden, the National Museum of Antiquities, the Old Observatory, the National Museum of Ethnology, Japan Museum Siebold House, Museum De Valk, Leiden Heritage, Het Taalmuseum, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave and Museum het Leids Wevershuis are opening their doors. You will also be able buy a ticket at the Academy Building on the day itself.
