Citizen Science

From where litter ends up to which languages are spoken in Leiden and The Hague: over 50 interesting, surprising, complex and entertaining questions were sent in for the Citizen Science project to mark our 444th anniversary. Not one but two Citizen Science projects will be starting this year in Leiden and The Hague.

Plastics and psychology in the city

In the project ‘plastics in the Leiden canals,’ researchers and residents will be trying to find out where the plastic waste in the Leiden canals ends up. In the other project, city residents can take part in cognitive-scientific research and do tests in a ‘psychology lab on wheels.’ 

Citizen Science

In citizen science, the residents of a city conduct research together with scientists. To celebrate Leiden University’s 444th anniversary, we are carrying out two Citizen Science projects this year.

Over the last few weeks, the Citizen Science Lab evaluated the mails it received in response to its call for research questions. They worked with the people who submitted a number of the questions to come up with ten project proposals. A jury comprising representatives from the Municipality of Leiden, Leiden University, LUMC, Leiden University of Applied Sciences and a citizen science researcher assessed the ten proposals.
