Prof Dr Matthias Erb
Bern University, Department of Biology, Bern, Switzerland
Prof Erb received his PhD from Neuchâtel University (CH) in 2009, and he had a Post Doc at the same university. He was an independent group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical ecology in Jena (DE) from 2011 to 2014. He, subsequently, became assistant and later associate professor at Bern University (CH). His research group elucidates the strategies that plants employ to resist biotic stresses, with a particular focus on the role of plant secondary metabolites in plant-herbivore, plant-microbe, and multi-trophic interactions. By combining different techniques and plant models in an interdisciplinary approach, they aim at generating a flow of knowledge from single genes to ecological interactions across a gradient from wild systems to agriculture.
