Diversity Card Game
Having open conversations about diversity and inclusion is an important first step towards change. Yet, such conversation can be emotional and vulnerable, and at times uncomfortable to initiate and sustain. The 'What’s Your Story?' Card Game aims to enable participants to exchange and respond to stories in relation to diversity, inclusion and belonging.
What’s your story? A diversity card game
The What’s Your Story? Card Game was developed by Dr Tingting Hui, Assistant Professor at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society. The development of the card game was supported by the Humanities JEDI Fund. Central to game are concepts of storytelling and play: while storytelling has proven to be an effective diversity intervention in higher education, the format of play can enhance empathic listening and lays the foundation for critical intervention by creating a safe sharing space.
The card game can be played in any (educational) setting by 2 to 10 players. The advised duration is 1-2 hours, but this may be shortened. The set-up is simple: through the use of question and response cards, the group will share personal stories and connections, discuss intellectual reflections on diversity and inclusion and take part in dynamic actions.
