The winter season is almost here and so is the end of our exhibition More-than-Planet. From 1 November, you can only visit us with exclusive guided tours. During this tour, you will visit one of our historical telescopes and we will take you through the More-than-Planet exhibition.
As of now, the Old Observatory's visitor center is also accessible with the We Are Public Pass! Visitors who have this pass can visit our exhibition More-Than-Planet for free.
Last week, the Old Observatory Leiden concluded its participation in Stage 1 of the DOORS Incubation Programme. Our team has spent the last three months learning about how to successfully implement digital practices into their work to improve our audience engagement. The workshops introduced important concepts and inspiring speakers which allowed us to critically assess our pilot. The opportunity to discuss thoughts and ideas with other participants expanded our views on the possibilities of digital and allowed us to increase our network within the cultural sector. Watch this space as we continue to navigate the world of scientific NFTs with our new found knowledge and techniques.
Starting 2 July 2022, a new exhibition will be opened to the public at the Old Observatory: More-than-Planet. This exhibit asks the question: how do we imagine our planet?

BplusC Libraries and Old Observatory Leiden working together to provide telescopes
To what extent is astronomy woven into our culture? Starting the 16th of October, you can visit the Shared Sky exhibition at the Old Observatory and search for the answer to that question. The exhibition explores the knowledge, colours and the beauty of the nightsky as seen by the eyes and expressed by the artists from South Africa and Australia.
In Green Bank, Virginia are some giant radio telescopes which astronomers use to study objects deep in space. Because these telescopes are built to capture very faint redio signals, the area around the observatory is officially a 'radio-quiet' zone, without WiFi, radio or Cell signal. Photographers Andrew Phelps en Paul Kranzler visited the Green Bank region and it's inhabitants and composed a very special exhibition. A few times a week items will be posted on this web page that are related to this exhibition in the Old Observatory. The exhibition itself is closed for the time being because of the corona virus.
(04-11-2020) The visitor center of the Old Observatory is closed until November 15th 2020 in line with the national corona measures in the Netherlands. When we reopen, please pay attention to our corona regulations:
