Hanna Swaab studeerde klinische kinderpsychologie en neuropsychologie en werd in 1985 benoemd als universitair docent bij de Universiteit Utrecht, op de afdeling Kinder- en Jeugdpsychiatrie van het UMCU en bij het Rudolf Magnus Instituut voor neuroscience. In 1997 werd zij Universitair Hoofddocent, praktijkopleider en hoofd van de secties psychodiagnostiek, gezinstherapie en individuele psychotherapie bij de divisie hersenen van het UMCU. In 2004 werd zij benoemd als hoogleraar neuropedagogiek en ontwikkelingsstoornissen bij de Universiteit Leiden. Van 2013-2018 was zij decaan van de Faculteit der Sociale Wetenschappen. Zij is directeur van het Ambulatorium van de Universiteit Leiden en hoofdopleider van de landelijke specialistische opleidingen tot klinisch psycholoog (kinderen en jeugdigen) en tot klinisch neuropsycholoog. Ze is volgends de wet BIG geregistreerd als klinisch psycholoog, klinisch neuropsycholoog en psychotherapeut, gespecialiseerd in (cognitieve) gedragstherapie. Zij combineert bestuur, management, onderwijs, opleiding en klinisch werk met het doen van wetenschappelijk onderzoek.
Onderzoek
Zij doet onderzoek naar de neurocognitieve en biologische factoren die onderliggend zijn aan emotionele en gedragsproblemen bij kinderen en adolescenten met ontwikkelingsstoornissen en de effecten van behandeling daarop.
