Bernard Bernards is an assistant professor at the Institute of Public Administration of Leiden University. His research and teaching focusses on topics of professional decision-making, uncertainty, leadership, and bureaucracy, with a specific focus on the domain of health and welfare.

Bernard Bernards is an assistant professor at the Institute of Public Administration of Leiden University. His research and teaching focusses on topics of professional decision-making, uncertainty, leadership, and bureaucracy, with a specific focus on the domain of health and welfare.

Bernard Bernards works for the Institute of Public Administration since September 2016. His PhD-research focusses on the uncertainty experiences of professionals working for social welfare teams in the Dutch municipality of The Hague. As such, his research examines the impact of the decentralization of the social domain in the Netherlands on individual public professionals and it generates insights into the successful transformation of the social welfare sector. It also contributes to the broader societal debate on policy transitions.

Bernard holds a Master of Science in Public Administration (2016) as well as a Master of Arts in Ancient and Medieval History (2014) from Radboud University Nijmegen. In addition, he was part of the Europeaum Scholars Programme of Oxford University in 2018-2019.
