Dear friends of the NVIC,
I am Sijmen Wals and this semester I'll be the new intern at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo.
Submit a proposal for conducting research at a Dutch Scientific Institute Abroad (NWIB) for a period of 3 months
Dear friends of the NVIC, Yesterday morning, the terrible news reached us that professor Fred Leemhuis, former director of the NVIC, passed away after a short illness in Groningen. He was a great and beloved friend of our institute. We wish his wife Vreni, his sons Rob and Benni and their wives, his grandchildren and his many friends all the strength to cope with this terrible loss. We will not forget Fred. May he rest in eternal peace. Rudolf de Jong
NVIC is pleased to welcome Christine Kamel as our new receptionist. Christine will briefly introduce herself: "My name is Christine Kamel. I live in Cairo, Egypt. I studied Pharmacy at an Egyptian University (Ain Shams), class 2010. I worked as a Research & Development Pharmacist in a Pharmaceutical company for 9 years. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be multilingual and be able to speak many languages. So, besides studying Pharmacy, I used to study foreign languages. I speak English, French, Greek in addition to my mother tongue “Arabic”. Currently, I am studying Dutch as well. When I saw the announcement made by NVIC for the vacancy of a “Receptionist/Secretary”, I really wanted to join, so I applied and I was honored to have been selected. People here are very friendly and I love everything about this place. My hobbies include reading, listening to music, watching movies, travelling and caring for pets. I’ve been to many countries across Europe and the Netherlands is always my favorite destination. I have 2 dogs & 5 cats, all of which are rescued from the streets. One of my dreams is to witness an end to animal cruelty all over the world. In the end I would like to say: Ik hou van Nederland."
Important note: upon careful consideration, we have decided to resume our Dutch language courses.
Dear friends of the institute,
Considering the ongoing developments surrounding Covid-19 in Egypt and in accordance with Leiden University regulations, we have decided to cancel the Dutch courses for the time being. We will reevaluate the situation in December 2021 the soonest.
