Between 16 May and 4 June our first ‘Introduction to Ancient Egypt’ course took place with a group of highly motivated students.

On Monday 7 March 2016 the Minister of Antiquities, Dr Mamdouh Eldamaty, and the governor of Minya, General Tariq Nasr, visited the site of Dayr al-Barsha, where they were guided around by Prof. Harco Willems. After the recent events, the minister and the governor have expressed their support for the safeguarding of the site, for which we are most grateful.
After years of hard work, the Roman Villa of Serenus at Amheida in the Dakhla Oasis, of which the reconstruction in mud brick was commissioned to architect Dr Nicholas Warner by the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (New York University), after which it was beautifully decorated by Dorothea Schulz, is as good as ready to be opened (just a few final touches remain on the decorations). Our institute facilitated the decorating work by Dorothea, which were financially made possible by grants from the Netherlands Embassy in Cairo, to whom we are very grateful.
With 'PEGASUS 2', FWO aims to enhance human capital in fundamental research by attracting more excellent foreign researchers to Flanders via incoming fellowships, as well as by bestowing researchers in Flanders with increased international experience via outgoing fellowships.
The Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo offers accommodation to researchers, staff and students of the affiliated Dutch and Flemish universities.
