Alumni masterclass on inclusive leadership
An alumni masterclass on inclusive leadership was held on Tuesday 12 June. Alumni of Leiden University returned to the lecture hall to learn about managing diversity in organisations. Various speakers shared their knowledge of the topic. The evening ended with a panel discussion, which gave the alumni the opportunity to discuss with the speakers issues that are relvant in their own work.
Professor Sandra Groeneveld spoke about the importance of inclusive leadership and the dilemmas that can arise. Leaders who devote attention to differences between people while ensuring that there is connection are most effective. Scientific research has proven this. Marieken Westerink, programme manager at the Dutch National Police Corps, used five lessons to give the audience some insight into the practice of diversity in the police force. Mpanzu Bamenga, policy officer for diversity and inclusivity at Leiden University, then joined the panel discussion.
The masterclass was convened and introduced by Dr Saniye Celik from the Centre for Professional Learning.
