If a firm or institution wishes to verify the authenticity of your LLM Advanced Studies diploma, the following procedures apply:
- Send the diploma verification request yourself to international@law.leidenuniv.nl attaching a copy of your diploma and/or transcript OR
- Authorise the firm or institution to email us via international@law.leidenuniv.nl, attaching both a copy of your authorisation AND a copy of your diploma and/or transcript.
- In both cases, the following must be included in the email: your name and date of birth, the date and title of your degree and the email address to which diploma verification should be sent.
- Note: if we receive requests without the necessary attachments, we will first contact you or the firm/institution to request the required documents before proceeding with the request.
Important: If the firm or institution requires documentary proof of your degree, please instead follow one of the other procedures on this page.
If you graduated in or after September 2018, you can request a free digital extract of your diploma from DUO (part of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture & Science). This will not look like your original diploma and will not contain details of your grades, but it is recognised as valid proof of your degree.
To submit your request you will need a DigiD (Dutch digital ID). Make sure to request a DigiD and download the DigiD app before leaving the Netherlands. Have you already left and don’t have a DigiD? If you are an EU national you can request a DigiD from abroad. Unfortunately, non-EU nationals cannot request a DigiD after they have permanently left the Netherlands.
If you don’t have a DigiD you can also request a printed version of the diploma extract but be aware that a substantial fee is involved.
