Call for Nominations | 2023 HJD Book Award
We are welcoming nominations for the 2023 HJD Book Award ! The HJD Book Award is given to the author(s) of the book that best advances the theoretical and/or empirical study of diplomacy.
Eligible books for the 2023 Award should be original works with a focus on the broadly defined field of Diplomatic Studies, and with a publication date in 2021 or 2022.
Books should be self-nominated or nominated by others through this form. Nominations should include details of the publication and a short (approx. 300-word) justification. One electronic or hard copy of the book must be sent to the Editor-in-Chief before the nomination deadline (29 March 2023).
The Selection Committee shall consist of members from the HJD Editorial Board, with an adequate balance in gender, location and seniority.
Committee members shall evaluate the nominated books based on a fixed set of criteria. The Editor-in-Chief will integrate the Committee’s assessments and determine the winner.
- The winner of the 2023 Award will be announced in the summer of 2023
- The successful author(s) shall be awarded a cash prize of 500 Euros

The winner of the inaugural 2021 HJD Book Award is Markus Kornprobst for his book: ‘Co-Managing International Crises: Judgements and Justifications.’
