- Erik Danen (LACDR) is part of the consortium SMART, which received a NWO Perspectief grant of 5 million euros
- The Exposome-Scan project, led by Thomas Hankemeier (LACDR), received 3.2 million euros from the NWO Investment Grant Large
- Salma Balazadeh, Víctor Carrión and Jos Raaijmakers (IBL) receive an Open Technology Programme grant of 730,000 euros for their project MicroRes
- Ben Wielstra (IBL) receives an ENW-M-1 grant of 354,000 euros

- The Faculty of Science is part of the consortium Quantum Delta NL, which received 615 million euros
- Pedro Russo and Frans Snik (STRW) both received a 10,000 euros grant from the KNAW ‘Science Communication by Scientists: Appreciated!’
- Laurens Arp, Mitra Baratchi and Holger Hoos (LIACS) receive a grant of 90,000 euros from ESA

- Anja Rüten-Budde (MI) wins the C.J. Kok Jury Award for best thesis
- Daniela Gawehns (LIACS) is part of Reprohak, which won the Open Initiative Trophy
- Space in Your Living Room (STRW) wins the first prize ‘Most Innovative Event’ of the Astronomy@Home Awards from the International Astronomical Union

- AI networks CLAIRE (LIACS) and ELLIS jointly win the German Artificial Intelligence prize of 100,000 euros
- Michiel Veldhuis (CML) wins the C.J. Kok Public Award
- Nadia Soudzilovskaia (CML) wins the Bessel-Forschungs from the Von Humboldt foundation
- Danna Qasim (STRW) wins the IAU PhD Prize in Division B: Facilities, Technologies and Data Science
- Eleven Leiden Science scientists are on the 2021 Highly Cited Researchers list of Clarivate Analytics
- Koos Biesmeijer (CML) receives the Communication Initiative Award with the National Bee Count
- Emilia Hannula (CML) receives the Golden Medal of Teylers Tweede Genootschap
- Klaas van Leest (LIC) receives the Dick Stufkens Prize 2021 of the Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry (HRSMC)
- Vedran Dunjko (LIACS) and his team receive 100,000 euros from Google to support their quantum research
