This international workshop seeks to bring together an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars to work on the interrelated aspects of ancient and early medieval walls in the Mediterranean and northwestern Europe throughout the first millennium CE. The keynote address will be given by Hendrik Dey, and confirmed speakers include Rachele Dubbini, Penelope Goodman and Nicholas Purcell. Preceding the workshop, Prof. Hendrik Dey, Dr. Saskia Stevens, Dr. Megan Welton will conduct a three-hour seminar on the morning. of the first day of Muros et Moenia.

It is time for the fifth lecture in the series Manuscript Mondays. We shall have two speakers. Jesse Keskiaho (University of Helsinki, Finland) will start with a talk about the soul. In the second talk Evina Steinova will tell us more about the medieval encyclopaedia. The talks will be followed by a pop-up exhibition, showcasing relevant manuscripts from the Leiden collection.

Intensive 5-day programme on the world-famous Antwerp-based printing and publishing house founded by Christopher Plantin in 1555. International experts will discuss how it developed the production and distribution of religious books and related illustrations and prints in the following centuries.
