Determine your entry level

Before you enroll in one of our courses, it is important to determine your current level of proficiency.

Dutch

For Dutch we offer an online intake to assess your current level. You can contact us via talencentrum@hum.leidenuniv.nl to schedule an online intake. Employees of Leiden University can also contact the administration of ATC to determine the level of their Dutch.

Please note: Since the online intake is a brief intake (about 15 minutes) in which not all language skills are extensively tested, the result of the intake is only an indication of your level. Therefore, you cannot derive any rights from it.

English

We have a separate entry test for English: intake test practical English. The key is included, so you can grade the test yourself and choose the right course based on your score.

Other European languages

For the following languages in our curriculum the Dialang test is available:

  • German
  • French
  • Italian
  • Portugese
  • Spanish
  • Swedish

With European support, the DIALANG online computer test has been developed with which you can determine your language proficiency in a large number of European languages. The results are indicated according to the following language skills: writing, grammar, vocabulary, language structures, listening and reading. Language structures and writing are the most important parts to determine your entry level. The test takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. After each section of the test you will immediately receive the result / feedback via the website. You can choose a course based on this result.
