Participation and Procedure

In this section you will find detailed information about the eligibility criteria, necessary conditions, and guidelines for participating.

Participation Guidelines

Interested eligible participants can fill out the online entry form to submit the master's thesis.   The following texts should be submitted through this form, which is open from September 1st until November 1st:

  • Masters thesis in pdf-format  

  • An accessible written abstract of up to 500 words about the study.    

  • A reflection of up to 500 words demonstrating the innovative nature,social/environmental/governmental implications and sustainability of research conduct of the master's thesis (with a clear link to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals).  

Procedure

All participants will receive confirmation of their submission after filling out the form. Once the deadline has passed, a jury will evaluate all theses and nominate the top three candidates, who will receive an award and compensation.

The three nominees will be invited to the award ceremony, which will take place around January 2025. The nominees will be asked to prepare a short presentation of no more than 10 minutes for the ceremony. 

Jury and Prize

Jury 

The full jury consists of at least six people with a diverse background and is reconstituted annually. Within the full jury, three members will be selected by the LUGO student board as well as Sustainability Policy Advisor (dept. Strategy and Academic Affairs) to compile the shortlist based on the online application form, the summary of the master's thesis and the requested texts. These three members will include at least one member from LUGO as well as two academics with expertise from different disciplines - ideally full/associate/assistant professors or in case of inavailability, we will consider PhD-students as well. 

The shortlist will be forwarded to the full jury, who will determine the final ranking to be announced during the award ceremony. In case of insufficient number or quality of entries, the jury reserves the right not to award the prize.  

Prize

The prize will consist of a prize of €500, - for the winner. The nominee in the second place will receive €100, while the nominee in the third place is rewarded with €50, -. The rest of the Top 5 nominees will receive an honorable mention. The finalists will present their master's thesis at the same awards ceremony.
