About

The Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University serves as a bridge between academic research and practical application from its base in The Hague.

Its multidisciplinary team strives to enhance policy, management, and societal functions while training a new generation of public administration professionals with a critical, international perspective on political and governance challenges.

The institute's research and teaching focus on policy and management processes within the public sector, with special attention to urgent issues such as the housing crisis, immigration, and the energy transition.

It is part of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs in The Hague, alongside the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, Leiden University College, and various centres with which the institute closely collaborates.

The institute has a strong international reputation and is one of the largest and longest-established academic institutions for public administration in the Netherlands.

The institute offers a Dutch-language bachelor's programme in Public Administration with three tracks:

The institute provides the English-taught master's programme Public Administration with three tracks:

The institute also collaborates with the Leiden Institute of Environmental Sciences to offer the English-taught master's programme Governance of Sustainability.

Furthermore, the Institute of Public Administration contributes to teaching within the English-taught master's programme ICT in the Public Sector.

For professionals working in the public domain, the institute partners with the Centre for Professional Learning to develop specialised courses.
