Psychology (BSc)
Application procedure
Along with your application, you will need to submit a variety of documents, including your transcript of results. Your previous education determines which menu in the online application portal of Leiden University (uSis) you have to use. Every student who wants to apply for a programme at Leiden University will need to start their application in Studielink. Afterwards, you will receive access to uSis.
The application procedure starts in Studielink. Studielink will be open for the following academic year from the 1st of October.
In Studielink you have to select the following study programme: 'Psychology (bachelor)'. This is the programme with the Dutch and the British flag.
After you have filled in the study programme details (step 3), you can select the version of the Psychology programme you want to apply for (step 4). Please select 'English language version of the Psychology programme (International Bachelor in Psychology)' if you want to apply for the English-taught programme.
More information on how to apply in Studielink can be found here.
If you have any additional questions about Studielink, go to the “I have a question” page.
After your application in Studielink you will be sent log-in details for uSis. This can take a couple of days. You can upload all required documents in this portal.
Having issues with logging in? Please consult our FAQ page for solutions.
You will get access to the following menu:
Please note: some students must submit documents in both the uSis-submenus Admission and Selection & Placement while other students only need to use one of these uSis-submenus depending on your previous education. We advise you to read the webpage ‘Required documents’ for more detailed information.
Submenu Admission
Students who need to submit an application for admission need to upload all the required documents in the uSis-submenu Admission (under Application Study Programme). Your application for admission will be processed once you have paid the application fee (some students are exempt from paying the application fee; more information is available in uSis). The Admissions Office will review your application for admission. An admissions decision will be sent within four to six weeks after the completion of your application. Note that you cannot start with the programme if you are not deemed admissible regardless of the outcome of the selection process.
Submenu Selection & Placement
All students with a previous Dutch education need to upload all the required documents in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement (under Application Study Programme). Here you must upload the confirmation of the submitted Online Form and your transcripts.
The Selection committee of the Bachelor programme Psychology will review your uploads. Please make sure your uploads meet all the requirements. You will be notified if this isn't the case.
Note: It is important that you ‘submit’ (not only ‘save’) all your documents in uSis before the deadline. You can see in uSis when your application is complete (all documents need to have the status “approved” and you have no open actions to complete).
You can participate in the selection process if you have completed step 1 and 2 before the deadline. When this is the case, you will receive an email from the Institute of Psychology with more information by the end of January.
Read more about the selection process.
You will be informed on your ranking on the 15th of April. From the 15th of April onwards you will be informed by Studielink whether you have been placed in the programme. You then have 2 weeks to accept or decline your place.
Also, follow these steps to finalise your enrolment:
- Check in uSis whether you need to submit any documents to meet your conditions of admission, if applicable. Instructions on how to do so will be provided in uSis.
- Arrange tuition fee payment before the official start date of your study programme. You will receive instructions and information on payment methods by email.
- International students should also go to our prepare your stay pages to find out about all the practical matter you should take care of before and upon arrival. For example arranging housing, applying for a visa/residence permit and taking out insurances.
