Student life

Leiden is a winning combination of being small and fun, yet big in character as a student city. It’s also conveniently close to cities like Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam, which can all be reached by train in just 30 minutes.

Study association LKV

The L.K.V. is the study association for Arts, Media and Society students, Art History students and Arts and Culture students. We organise a variety of art-related activities, like excursions, monthly drinks and travels.

Both Dutch and international students are invited to check out our bilingual association. Joining our association is the perfect way to meet people with similar interests! Being part of the L.K.V. means getting exclusive tours around museums, interesting lectures, pub-crawls. And it also means getting to know a community of friendly people who will welcome you with open arms!

"It is definitely a good idea to join the study association LKV. They organise drinks, workshops, talks and city trips. This year I participated in trips to London and Florence, visiting museums, seeing the city and its buildings. For me, these were valuable experiences: I got to see so much, and also developed close friendships with fellow students."

"The Student Association L.K.V. organises different events like lectures, a gala, trips to European cities, museum visits and drinks. This way it is easy to meet a lot of people with similar interests. International students are also actively invited, with activities and communication in English."

"I really like Leiden, which was one of the reasons for me to choose this programme. When friends of mine come to the Netherlands, I always tell them to come to Leiden and not just stay in Amsterdam. It is also the perfect city for studying: not too big, not too small, lots of activities and different people, but also quiet and beautiful. Perfectly balanced and also close to other cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam."

Leiden student city

Leiden is a lively university city that’s brimming with history and with a ubiquitous student culture. Leiden University is renowned for its many student associations, organised around sports, music and social clubs, as well as cultural associations. These associations will also give you access to a sizeable network, which will be very useful if you’re looking for accommodation or if you want to make new friends. A compact and manageable city, it’s never more than a short bike ride from your accommodation to the University.
