Tuition fee
In general, students joining Leiden University via an exchange agreement do not need to pay tuition fees. For most other students, tuition fees do apply.

Exchange students
Are you a student at a partner university and will you join us for regular courses via an exchange agreement? If so, you will generally continue paying tuition fees to your home institution and do not need to pay tuition fees to Leiden University.
Study abroad agreement students
Are you a student at a partner university and will you join us via a study abroad (non-exchange) agreement? If so, tuition fees do apply. Ask your home university coordinator for full details.
Independent study abroad students
Is your home university not a partner of Leiden University and will you follow courses as an independent student? If so, tuition fees do apply.
Other types of Erasmus+ activity
Are you coming to Leiden University for an Erasmus+ internship, research project or other type of placement? If so, tuition fees generally do not apply.
Summer schools and language courses
Tuition fees always apply if you want to follow a summer school or a language course at Leiden University Academic Language Centre.

If you are required to pay tuition fees, you will receive an invoice from our financial department approximately ten weeks before the start of your studies. The invoice will state the amount due, payment deadline and available methods of payment. Please await your invoice before making payment!
Study abroad agreement students
Your home university coordinator can tell you more about payment arrangements between your institution and Leiden University.
