Prepare for your studies at Leiden University
Congratulations, you have completed all the steps for admission and application, so you are a Leiden University student now! Below you can find a few tips to start at Leiden University well prepared.
1. Prepare your stay
Have a look at the ‘Prepare your stay’ pages for international students. Here you can find information about visa, housing and financial matters.
2. Housing
Many students prefer to live in the city where they are studying. This can make student life much easier and also be a lot of fun. You can read more here.
3. Studentwebsite
Visit the ‘New Student’ pages on the studentwebsite, where you can find information about practical matters, the introduction weeks and studentassociations. You can find information on the student website about your programme and faculty.
You can find information about practical matters, such as courses, schedules and reading materials, in the e-prospectus. Also take a look under your faculty or study programme tab.
4. Student card
Your student card is your proof of registration as a student of Leiden University. You can find your digital student card in the Leiden University app three days after your student registration is finalised. Read more about your student card here.
5. LU-Card
As soon as you receive notification that your student registration has been finalised you should request Leiden University ID card, or LU-Card. It also serves as your library card, print & copy card and access pass. Read more about requesting the LU-card here.
6. Introduction programme
Sign up for the introduction week in Leiden (OWL) or The Hague (HOP)! It’s the best way to get to know the city, student life and your fellow students. Most study programmes have their own introduction activities. You’ll receive more information by post.
