About the AVT
The AVT is the society for linguists living and/or working in the Netherlands. Founded in 1950, the society currently has around 200 members.
At the beginning of every calendar year, normally the first Friday in February, the AVT organizes the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day together with Anéla and LOT.
A selection of the papers presented at the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day is published in the journal Nota Bene, published by is John Benjamins.
Also part of the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day is the Language Gala, at which the winners of two annual awards are announced: the AVT/Anéla Dissertation award for the best linguistic dissertation defended in the previous year, and the LOT Popularization Award for the best outreach activity that promotes linguistic research among the general public.
The AVT is a member of the Permanent International Committee of Linguistics (CIPL).
Membership to AVT is 25 € per year for students and linguists without employment, and 35 € for all other linguists. To become a member, please fill in the digital form or email our secretary Jenneke van der Wal. Members are entitled to present at the Dutch Annual Linguistics Day and receive the yearly issue of Nota Bene for free.
