Please note that, due to the corona measures Leiden University is taking, the full programme on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be online. On Sunday the visitors center of the Old Observatory will be reopened!

Ars Electronica Festival is a “Festival for Art, Technology and Society” in Linz to discuss the Digital Revolution and its possible consequences.
This year, because of the Covid-19 issues we are facing, this festival is organised by AE partners around Europe and Leiden Observatory will be part of it by hosting a four-day art-science festival from the 10th until the 13th of September. Moreover, the visitor centre of the Old Observatory will be reopened!

The programme is as follows:

    With photographers Andrew Phelps and Paul Kranzler on The Drake Equation and book launch How to Future: Leading and Sense-making in an Age of Hyperchange by authors Scott Smith and Michelle Kasprzak.
  • Friday September 11th - 17:00 - 19:30
    Live on YouTube
    With photographers Andrew Phelps and Paul Kranzler on The Drake Equation and panel discussion on the Powers of Ten.
  • Saturday September 12th - 14:00 - 19:00
    Live on YouTube
    Art Science Space Conference by Bernard Foing. Moon Gallery: Close Cosmos exhibition inauguration by curators Elizaveta Glukhova & Anna Sitnikova with presentations by Moon Gallery artists. 
  • Sunday, September 13th - 10:00-18:00
    Visitors of the Hortus Botanicus Leiden can enter the visitor center of the Old Observatory freely. Starting at 14:00, you are welcome to join a simulated Moonwalk through the Hortus with astronauts in moonsuits!
