Susana Santos Ângelo Salgado Valdez is Universitair Docent aan het Centre for Linguistics. Susana is expert in vertaalwetenschap met een focus op gezondheidscommunicatie, migratie en de rol van AI bij het overwinnen van taalbarrières. Aan de Universiteit Leiden onderzoekt ze de uitdagingen van migranten bij het begrijpen van vaccinatieteksten en het gebruik van automatische vertaling in de gezondheidszorg. Als fellow aan de Universiteit van Warwick bestudeert ze de impact van Google Translate in meertalige gemeenschappen, met aandacht voor verantwoordelijkheid, integratie en mensenrechten.
