Onderzoek naar biologische klok en depressie
Antypa is vooral geïnteresseerd in hoe de interne biologische klok (chronotype) in wisselwerking staat met andere psychologische en omgevingsinvloeden en vervolgens de kwetsbaarheid van mensen voor depressie en suïcide beïnvloedt.
Depressie is een complexe stoornis met meerdere mogelijke oorzaken. Door de rol van de biologische klok te begrijpen, hoopt Antypa inzicht te geven in de factoren die bijdragen aan het ontstaan of in stand houden van een depressieve staat. Ze onderzoekt ook interventies (bv. lichttherapie, e-health) die een gezondere werking van de biologische klok bevorderen en de slaap verbeteren, in verschillende populaties waaronder depressieve patiënten, studenten en andere. Afhankelijk van de bestudeerde populatie beogen deze interventies ziekte te voorkomen of de behandeling te verbeteren.
Kort CV
Niki Antypa werd geboren op het eiland Chios, Griekenland. Tussen 2000-2004 studeerde ze Psychologie aan het American College of Greece waar ze met hoge onderscheiding de Bachelor of Arts in Psychology behaalde.
Daarna verhuisde ze naar Nederland om Klinische Psychologie te studeren. Eind 2006 behaalde ze haar MSc in Psychologie (cum laude) aan de Universiteit Leiden. Van 2007 tot 2011 werkte ze bij de afdeling Klinische Psychologie als promovendus en in juni 2011 promoveerde ze. Haar proefschrift richtte zich op cognitieve kwetsbaarheid voor depressie, inclusief de invloed van genetische, omgevings- en voedingsfactoren.
Met een Rubicon Grant, toegekend door de NWO, deed ze postdoctoraal onderzoek aan het Instituut voor Psychiatrie aan de Universiteit van Bologna, Italië.
In 2022 werd Antypa universitair hoofddocent bij de sectie Klinische Psychologie aan de Universiteit Leiden.
