Jan Aart Scholte is hoogleraar Global Transformations and Governance Challenges aan de Universiteit Leiden. Zijn leerstoel is een gezamenlijk initiatief van het Instituut Politieke Wetenschap (Faculteit der Sociale Wetenschappen) en het Institute of Security and Global Affairs (Faculteit Governance and Global Affairs). Jan leidt het interfacultaire programma Global Transformations and Governance Challenges (GTGC). Zijn onderzoeksinteresse gaat uit naar globalisering en sociale verandering, polycentric governing, legitimiteit in global governance, wereldwijde democratie, de participerende samenleving in een globaliserende context, en internet governance.
