Annemieke van Drenth presenteert 10 juni 2022 haar boek “De ontdekking van het speciale kind”. Die dag neemt ze tevens afscheid van de universiteit als universitair docent. Annemieke is medewerker van het Instituut Pedagogische Wetenschappen aan de Universiteit Leiden. Ze publiceerde een reeks van boeken en artikelen op het terrein van de cultuurgeschiedenis rond gender en disability.

Onderzoek
Geschiedenis van de orthopedagogiek, de zorg voor ‘probleem-kinderen’ (‘disability-history’) en speciaal onderwijs: ontwikkeling van expertise, professionaliteit en interventies gericht op ontwikkelingsstoornissen en psychopathologie bij kinderen: projecten rond ‘idiotie’ (de Haagse ‘Idiotenschool’ in de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw), ‘autisme’ (de Nederlandse ontdekking van kinderen met een autistische stoornis in de jaren 30 van de 20ste eeuw) en het Cornelia de Lange syndroom (eveneens ontdekt in de jaren 30 van de vorige eeuw). Geschiedenis van gender en professionalisering in de pedagogiek, het speciaal onderwijs en de (gehandicapten)zorg: historisch en biografisch onderzoek naar de rol van (vrouwelijke) pedagogen.
