Dr.(mult.) Andrew DJ Shield is universitair docent economische en sociale geschiedenis. Hij is verbonden aan het interdisciplinaire onderzoeksproject 'Sociaal burgerschap en migratie'. Hij is voorzitter van het LGBT+ Netwerk in Leiden. Shield is gespecialiseerd in migratiegeschiedenis, seksualiteit, ras en diversiteit in Europa (1945-heden). Hij heeft twee doctoraten: in geschiedenis (CUNY Graduate Center, 2015) en communicatie (Roskilde University, 2018). Hij is de auteur van Immigrants in the Sexual Revolution: Perceptions and Participation in Northwest Europe (2017) en Immigrants on Grindr: Race, Sexuality and Belonging Online (2019). Shield heeft Arabische taal en internationale betrekkingen gestudeerd aan Brown University (BA, 2007).
