Next444

The Next444 project focuses on the future of interdisciplinary research at Leiden University.

In line with the celebration of 444 years of existence of Leiden University, the Young Academy Leiden looks towards the future and identifies three major themes that are already having major impact in our society and which are likely to shape the future of academia:

Data & Technology

This theme covers all aspects of big data, artificial intelligence, and workplace transformation.

Sustainability

This is understood in a broad sense, including climate change, global poverty, and well-being.

Equality, Fairness & Justice

This theme addresses economic, gender, or social inequality as well as aspects related to fair treatment and justice. 

Next444 activities

We have multiple activities, initiatives and events related to our Next444 project:

• Next444 Public Roundtable: this event has taken place on February 5, 2020.
• The Interdisciplinary Activity Grants: these grants are awarded to proposals for activities related to the three themes of the Next444 project as part of the 444 celebrations
• YAL's participation during the Night of Discoveries 2019, in which we also focused on the three themes of the Next444 project
