Jeanine de Roy van Zuijdewijn is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of Leiden University. She has a background in Liberal Arts & Sciences (BA) and History of International Relations (MA – cum laude) and completed a PhD on responses to terrorism in 2021.

Jeanine de Roy van Zuijdewijn is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of Leiden University. She has a background in Liberal Arts & Sciences (BA) and History of International Relations (MA – cum laude) and completed a PhD on responses to terrorism in 2021.

 

Her research interests are responses to terrorism, the impact of terrorism on societies, foreign fighters and lone-actor terrorism. She has published various peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and reports on these topics. Jeanine serves as an Associate Editor for Perspectives on Terrorism and is part of the Editorial Board of Leiden University Press. Additionally, she often gives lectures to professionals. One of her goals is to make academic knowledge available to wider audiences, such as professionals or the general public. 

 

She is the co-instructor of the MOOC “Terrorism and Counterterrorism: Comparing Theory & Practice” with Prof. dr. Edwin Bakker on Coursera and Futurelearn. This online course has attracted around 200,000 people from over 80 countries. In 2022, she co-wrote the book Terrorism and Counterterrorism: Comparing Theory & Practice.

 

In addition to her work at ISGA, Jeanine works at the Dutch House of Representatives, Analysis and Research Department (DAO) as the knowledge coordinator on international affairs & security.
