The chair of Ancient and Medieval History at Radboud University Nijmegen is organizing a new lecture series. In the RAM-lectures, a great variety of scholars in the fields of Antiquity and the Middle Ages will discuss their research. Students, PhD’s and staff are most welcome to attend. The lectures take place in person and will be followed by drinks.
De tentoonstelling 'Vrijheid, Vetes, Vagevuur' is tot en met 7 mei 2023 te zien in het Fries Museum. De tentoonstelling en de bijbehorende publicatie worden samengesteld door Diana Spiekhout, conservator terpencultuur en middeleeuwen. Spiekhout promoveerde in 2020 aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen op het middeleeuwse kastelenlandschap. In haar proefschrift analyseerde ze de ontwikkeling van bisschoppelijke burchten, adellijke huizen in relatie tot het landschap en de samenleving in Noordoost-Nederland tussen 1050 en 1450.
The conference 'Beyond Comparison: Towards a Connected Philology' is focused on identifying and examining the connections that create or lie behind parallels between philological methods and traditions in various cultures. Deadline for submissions: 30 November 2022.
The Oxford Byzantine Graduate Seminar is designed to showcase the breadth of graduate research in modern Late Antique and Byzantine Studies and to foster academic collaboration across institutions and sub-disciplines.
The IGTM workshop "Rules, Regulations, and Regimes in Medieval Religion" (21 June 2023) for graduate students and junior scholars, in which early career scholars have the opportunity to discuss their research with peers and senior referents in an informal setting, takes the 800th anniversary of the Franciscan Rule (1223) as a point of departure for a reflection on the value as well as the limitations of rules, regulations, and regimes, either given or self-made, for medieval religion. The ERC project ‘Healthscaping Urban Europe’ will hold a concluding plenary event on 30 September, where three experts will explore the history of premodern public health and especially reflect on possible future directions within this research field. All are welcome to join in person in the Doelenzaal. The event will be followed by a drinks’ reception at Café Luxembourg on the Spui.

Op woensdag 12 oktober worden vier lezingen gehouden over een opmerkelijke verzameling aantekenboekjes uit de vroege elfde eeuw, thans bewaard in Leiden. Ze zijn vervaardigd door de Franse monnik Ademar van Chabannes. Ad van Els schreef er een diepgravende studie over: A Man and his Manuscripts. De middag vindt plaats in de Vossiuszaal van de Universiteitsbibliotheek, Witte Singel 27 te Leiden.
