New Career Platform for young researchers
Leiden University has launched a new online platform for young researchers. The website helps PhD candidates and postdocs explore their career options outside academia.
Research has shown that some of our PhD graduates continue their career within the field of academia, but most of our young researchers (70%) find a job outside the academic world. Their prospects of finding a good job are excellent, but they may find it difficult to prepare to leave academia, for instance deciding which field they would like to work in.
Career guidance
The new Career Platform is available to all researchers. Young researchers can take career quizzes, follow online career-guidance courses, view inspiring testimonials by alumni and make an appointment with a career coach.
Vice-Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl is enthusiastic about the new platform: ‘Leiden University sets great store by helping its researchers decide which career will suit them, regardless whether this is within academia. The new Career Platform brings our career guidance under one roof and gives young researchers new opportunities to determine the next step in their career.’
