Pim Rank on the consequences of MiFID II at Round Table Financial Investigator
On 12 April 2018, Pim Rank participated in a Round Table on the consequences for the financial markets of MiFID II.
MiFID II (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II) entered into force on the 3rd of January 2018. This new European directive aims to improve the transparency and efficiency of the financial markets, as well as the level of investor protection. The implications of MiFID II for the financial markets were the central topic of the Round Table.
Pim Rank highlighted that Leiden University anticipated the entry into force of MiFID II; since two years, the financial law lectures have been given exclusively on the basis of the MiFID II legislation.
Other topics discussed during the Round Table concerned the interaction with the financial supervisory authorities, the introduction of a new type of trading platform, the OTF (Organised Trading Facility), and the newly introduced distinction between ‘dependent’ and ‘independent’ investment advice.
An overview of the topics discussed during this Round Table and the reflections of Pim Rank have been published in Financial Investigator 2018/3.
