Come to the Tour of Asia festival!
From gay rights in Asia to water management in the Philippines and from the Silk Road to current tensions with North Korea. Come to the Tour of Asia on 14 September to find out all you wanted to know about Asia and more.
The Tour of Asia is a free knowledge festival held by Leiden University to celebrate the opening of the Asian Library. Everyone – not only students and staff but also anyone from Leiden or elsewhere – is welcome at the workshops, lectures, exhibitions, films, food trucks and musical performances in various University buildings. Wander from a country update about Indonesia to a lecture on Japanese poetry, before taking a rickshaw to the Urban Jungle exhibition about mega cities in Asia. Have a manga portrait done while you enjoy a cup of cold drip Batavia Coffee. In short: a cultural festival covering Asia in all its facets.

The Asian Library is a new library at Leiden University housing over 30 kilometres of unique collections on South and Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Indonesia and Korea. The Indonesia collection is the largest in the world. This treasure trove for local and international researchers and students of Asian languages and cultures is housed in a new extension built on top of the University Library on Witte Singel.
Before the Tour of Asia commences, Queen Máxima will officially open the Asian Library. Queen Máxima is patroness of the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV), whose collection is part of the Asian Library collection. The official opening cermony will take place in the Pieterskerk. Regrettably there are no seats left for the ceremony.
