Education

The Department of Child Law focuses in its education on the legal position of the child in national and international law.

The Department of Child Law provides high-quality education in the bachelor's programme at Leiden Law School and offers two LLM programmes: The master's on Dutch Child Law (in Dutch) and the Master of Laws Programme Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights.

The Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights programme is a unique and small-scale, English-taught programme that offers advanced, specialist knowledge and practical skills required to effectively protect the rights of children worldwide.

The Department of Child Law furthermore offers the  renowned summer school programme ‘Frontiers of Children’s Rights’, in collaboration with the Grotius Centre of International Legal Studies. This summer school takes place in Leiden, on an annual basis, and in different parts of the world, including South-East Asia and the Caribbean.

In addition, the Department offers postgraduate courses for professionals with a legal or non-legal background.

Frontiers of Children's Rights Summer School Programme

Since 2013 the Department of Child Law offers an annual summer school programme on International Children's Rights. 

The programme is being developed by Prof. Ton Liefaard, Head of the Department of Child Law, Leiden Law School (Leiden University) and UNICEF Chair in Children’s Rights and Prof. Ann Skelton, Programme Director of the  Master of Laws Advanced Studies in International Children's Rights (Leiden University), and Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.
