Sustainable campus
Leiden University is working on a green, circular campus, with a significant reduction in energy consumption by 2050 as its goal, as elaborated in the Route Map Energy Transition Buildings, published in 2022.
The Route Map describes the strategy and necessary measures to fulfil the ambition of Dutch universities to meet the targets set in the Climate Accord for 2030 and 2050. We are aiming for:
- 65% reduction in our building-related CO2 emissions by 2030 (compared to 1990)
- 95% CO2 reduction of our buildings by 2050
We will continue to increase sustainability by firmly concentrating on:
- sustainable purchasing policy
- waste prevention and recycling
- sustainable mobility
- making the campus greener
- increasing biodiversity
