Project summary
This project is intended to boost the mobility of staff and students between Leiden University and the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK). From 2017 to 2019, an international credit mobility project promoted students and staff exchange between the two institutions. The renewal of this project means the further strengthening of the relationship between Leiden and USEK, as well as the enlargement and further institutionalisation of existing academic collaboration.
In 2013, Leiden University signed a cooperation agreement with USEK to increase the presence of students from the Middle East in Leiden and strengthen its presence in the Middle East. Exchange numbers started quite low, but experiences were positive. In the period 2017 to 2019, the implementation of an ICM project instigated a greater impetus for student exchange. There is now a steady flow of students from each side and students continue to contribute to the international classroom from the basis of their own legal backgrounds.
The cooperation between the law schools has been put on the map for students and staff on both sides. The renewal of this project means the further strengthening of the relationship.
Internationalisation is at the heart of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) community in Lebanon. Like Leiden University, USEK is seeking to develop an international environment in order to better prepare students, teachers and personnel to meet the challenges of a globalised world. Mobility of personnel and staff constitutes a crucial part of the university’s objectives. USEK seeks to foster its channels of mobility through bilateral agreements, student exchange programmes, joint degree programmes, internships and of course, mobility projects.

Testimonials
-
“At last, I want to say that it was an amazing experience for me and I’m happy that I’ve done it in my life. At the beginning it was complicated, but soon you’ll find out how things are working and you’ll meet some other exchange students too with whom you will share a lot of experiences” (student 2018) -
“I really liked the content of my programme. The classes were structured around prescribed literature, mostly recent academic articles, which we discussed during the classes. The courses gave a unique insight on the Lebanese and regional approach of the current affairs in the region. The classes were small (around 10 people) .” (student 2017)
