The Faculty of Science and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) are looking for a:
Postdoctoral candidate for chemically defined synthetic antibody development
Do you want to develop top edge novel drug modalities, embedded in a young and enthusiastic research group? With us you will combine organic synthesis, solid phase synthesis, polymerization and bioconjugation techniques to develop novel nanomaterials that mimic therapeutic antibodies in size, shape and function. Your work at the interface of chemistry and biology will prepare you for a competitive scientific career, both in academia and in the industry. Project objectives
- Develop synthesis strategies for sequences defined polymers
- Develop conjugation strategies for peptide (or small molecules) onto polymers
- Develop biophysical characterization assays (binding assays, microscopy, etc.) for the nanomaterials
Selection criteria
- PhD in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or related with a robust chemistry training
- Research experience with organic chemistry. Expertise in solid phase synthesis and bioconjugation techniques are strong benefit. Experience with biochemical binding assays and protein handling are of advantage.
- Scientific interest, dedication to research, creative thinking, goal oriented mentality
- Proven publication track record in peer reviewed scientific journals
- Appreciation for interdisciplinarity and proactive drive to collaborate across fields
- Proficiency in English, good communication skill and social competence
What we offer:
You will work in the modern laboratories of the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug research (LACDR). State of the art equipment for the project is available (automated synthesizers, high resolution mass spectrometers, automated flash chromatography, biolayer interferometry, etc.). You will receive supportive supervision both for your project, the publication process and your future career.
Terms and conditions
We offer a full-time appointment of initially one year. After a positive evaluation of the progress of the research, teaching evaluations, personal capabilities and compatibility, the appointment will be extended for another two years. You will be appointed in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The salary ranges from € 3.345 - € 5.278 gross per month, depending on experience (pay scale 10).
