Abstract:
Many questions have remained unanswered concerning Indigenous archaeology in the Caribbean, a culture heavily impacted by the arrival of the Europeans. Where and how did the people live? How did they move? To better understand Amerindian settlement patterns, identify indigenous activity and trace the movement of individual people, a variety of methods were applied from geoinformatics to remote sensing and statistics to offer some answers to these questions. The talk illustrates three case studies that were completed within 3-years, part of the ERC-Nexus1492.eu project at Leiden University in collaboration with other institutes.
