Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Initiated by Nexus1492 member Dr. Jorge Ulloa Hung and Prof. Corinne L. Hofman , Nexus1492 organized with and at the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) a one day research seminar, providing an opportunity to the students and staff of the university, as well as local researchers to discuss the issues on Amerindian Heritage in the Dominican Republic.

Further objectives were to foster synergies between History, Archaeology, Anthropology and other disciplines to increase our understanding of the early history in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

Nexus1492 members Corinne Hofman, Menno Hoogland, Jorge Ulloa Hung, Eduardo Herrera, Jana Pesoutova, Carmen Ting, Arlene Alvarez, Eldris Con Aguilar, Pauline Kulstad and Till Sonnemann were given the opportunity to present newest outcomes of the 2 months excavation and field surveys in the northern Dominican Republic. The seminar had a great turnout, hopefully stirring the interest in local archaeology and heritage issues.
