Marijn van Putten is universitair docent aan het Leiden University Centre for Linguistics en het Leiden University Institute for Area Studies. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op de taalkundige aspecten, de overlevering en de geschiedenis van de Koran en de Koranische leestradities. Daarnaast houdt hij zich ook bezig met de taalhistorie van het Arabisch en Berber. Hij is momenteel de Hoofdonderzoeker van het ERC Consolidator project QurCan: The Canonization of the Quranic Reading Traditions.
