Lieke Wirken is werkzaam als onderzoeker en docent binnen de sectie Gezondheids-, Medische en Neuropsychologie van de Universiteit Leiden, waar ze een door de Nierstichting gefinancierd project uitvoert om het zorgpad (screening en behandeling) voortkomend uit het proefschrift te implementeren binnen de Nederlandse transplantatiecentra.
Wirken behaalde in 2009 haar Masterdiploma Klinische Psychologie aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. Hierna combineerde ze onderzoek en patiëntenzorg binnen de afdeling Medische Psychologie van het Radboudumc en de Sint Maartenskliniek te Nijmegen.
Aansluitend startte zij met haar promotie-onderzoek rondom de psychosociale screening van nierdonoren, gecoördineerd vanuit de sectie Gezondheids-, Medische en Neuropsychologie van de Universiteit Leiden en de afdelingen Medische Psychologie en Nierziekten van het Radboudumc, en gefinancierd door de Nierstichting. In 2018 resulteerde dit in het proefschrift getiteld ‘Psychosocial consequences of living kidney donation: from screening to intervention’.
Onderzoek
Lieke Wirken’s onderzoek richt zich op psychosociale factoren rondom nierdonatie bij leven. Ze onderzoekt welke factoren in de psychosociale screening voor de nierdonatie opgenomen zouden kunnen worden en welke groep (potentiële) donoren mogelijk baat heeft bij aanvullende psychosociale ondersteuning rondom de nierdonatie. Als onderdeel van deze aanvullende ondersteuning onderzoekt zij een online cognitief-gedragstherapeutische interventie voor de kleine groep donoren die klachten rondom de donatieprocedure ervaart ter preventie van langere termijn problemen.
Onderwijs
Lieke Wirken doceert cursussen in het Bachelorprogramma Psychologie (o.a. Gezondheids- en Medische Psychologie en Perspectief op Carrièreplanning) en in het Masterprogramma Psychologie (o.a. master theses).
