Henk Dekker is emeritus hoogleraar Politieke Socialisatie en Integratie aan de Universiteit Leiden. Hij studeerde politicologie aan de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. In 1986 promoveerde hij aan de Rijksuniversiteit te Groningen op zijn proefschrift Politiek op school. Hij was gasthoogleraar methodologie aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (1992), bijzonder hoogleraar voor de sociaalwetenschappelijke studie van de relatie tussen Duitsland en Nederland aan de Universiteit Utrecht (1998-2008), directeur van het European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations van de Universiteit Utrecht (2002-2008), vice-decaan en portefeuillehouder onderwijs in het bestuur van de Faculteit der Sociale Wetenschappen van de Universiteit Leiden (2006-2014), en directeur van het Centre for Education and Learning van de alliantie van de Universiteit Leiden, de Technische Universiteit Delft en de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (2014-2018). In 2005 ontving hij de Nevitt Sanford Award van de International Society of Political Psychology.
