In januari 2015 is Helen Duffy benoemd tot Hoogleraar International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights bij het Grotius Centre van de Universiteit Leiden.
Curriculum vitae
Helen Duffy werkt parttime aan de Universiteit Leiden, daarnaast leidt ze ‘Human Rights in Practice’, een internationale praktijk gevestigd in Den Haag, gespecialiseerd in strategische procesvoering voor regionale en internationale mensenrechtenhoven en instituties (www.rightsinpractice.org). Voor het oprichten van haar praktijk in 2011 was ze meerdere jaren juridisch directeur van INTERIGHTS en werkte ze onder meer als juridisch medewerkster aan het Internationaal Straftribunaal voor voormalig Joegoslavië, als advocate voor Human Rights Watch/New York, als juridisch directeur van het Centre for Human Rights Legal Action (Guatemala), als juridisch adviseur voor de Onderzoekscommissie ‘Arms for Iraq’ in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en als juridisch medewerkster binnen de juridische dienst van de overheid van het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
Helen heeft een LLB van de University of Glasgow, een LLM van University College London, een Diploma in Legal Practice van Edinburgh University en promoveerde aan de Universiteit Leiden. Ze is honorair hoogleraar aan de University of Glasgow en is lid van de adviesraad van verschillende organisaties. Haar publicaties in het domein van internationaal recht zijn hieronder te vinden en omvatten onder meer ‘The War on Terror and the Framework of International Law’ CUP, 2de editie 2015.
Helen Duffy is Hoogleraar International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Van januari 2015 tot 2021 bekleedde zij de Gieskes Chair of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (0,2), gefinancierd door het het Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds.'
