Guido Band behaalde zijn master (1992) en PhD (1997) in ontwikkelingspsychologie en psychofysiologie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, waar hij onderzoek deed naar respons inhibitie. Sinds 1997 bestudeerde hij performance monitoring, cognitieve controle, dual-task performance en meer recente vormen van cognitieve verbeteringen. Sinds 2000 werkt hij aan de Universiteit Leiden. Sinds 2009 is hij universitair hoofddocent. Vanaf 1 april 2023 is hij voorzitter van de sectie Cognitieve Psychologie aan de Universiteit Leiden. Guido is voorzitter van de European Cognitive Aging Society (EUCAS).
