Femke E. Bakker is universitair docent Politicologie aan het Instituut Politieke Wetenschap.
Femke E. Bakker bestudeert politiek en internationale betrekkingen vanuit een politiek psychologische invalshoek. Haar onderzoeksinteresse gaat uit naar de microfundamenten van democratische vredestheorie, politiek leiderschap, overtuigingssystemen, stressmanagement voor crisisbeslissers en de impact van meditatie op politiek gedrag. Ze onderwijst op het gebied van politieke psychologie, internationale betrekkingen en onderzoeksmethoden.
Momenteel werkt Bakker aan twee onderzoeksprojecten. Can Lovingkindness Meditation Support Tolerant Political Behavior, gefinancierd door de PEACE Grant van het Mind and Life Institute, bestudeert de impact van meditatie op politiek gedrag. Samen met dr. Niels van Willigen onderzoekt Bakker of en hoe de overtuigingen van leiders hun besluitvorming beïnvloeden.
Bakker is associate researcher van de Laboratory of Comparative and Social Research (LCSR) en is tevens redacteur boekbesprekingen voor Acta Politica.
Dr. Bakker studeerde politieke wetenschap aan Universiteit Leiden en promoveerde daar in 2018. Haar promotieonderzoek, onder begeleiding van Prof. dr. Petr Kopecký, dr. Niels van Willigen en dr. Michael Meffert testte de microfundamenten van de democratische vrede theorieën. Haar dissertatie won de ECPR Jean Blondel Prize en ontving een Eervolle Vermelding door de ISPP.
