My research has a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and a strong translational character, integrating basic genetic and neuroimaging research with clinical interventions. My work at the Faculty of Social Sciences is closely related to my research position at the RadboudUMC, the Donders Institute and Karakter (the largest center for child- and adolescent psychiatry in the Netherlands).

As scholar, I am nationally and internationally recognized as expert on clinical assessment, neuroimaging, genetics and educational and pharmacological intervention studies in developmental disorders, in particular ASD. Important international collaborations exist with the Department of Pediatric Neurology and Neurorehabilitation, the First Hospital of Jilin University, China and the Department of Human Genetics at UCLA (Prof. R.A. Ophoff). Nationally, a collaboration with the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition (Prof. H. Swaab) has been initiated to study self-regulating abilities in early adulthood in high-functioning ASD.
