Summary
Veronica Janssen carries out research in the area of adaptation to chronic illness. She developed several intervention programs for cardiac patients aimed at improving self-management and well-being. She teaches courses in basic therapeutic skills, motivational interviewing techniques, cognitive behavioral interventions and the psychosocial aspects of chronic disease - amongst others. She supervises MSc thesis students and (academic) internships. She is also a qualified cognitive-behavioral therapist (VGCt) and works in a cardiac rehabilitation clinic as a medical psychologist. She represents the Netherlands Institute of Psychologists (NIP) in the Multidisciplinary Association for Cardiac Rehabilitation (LMDO-H), the Platform Vitale Vaten, and is chair of the National Working Group on Cardio-Psychology (LWCP), and secretary of Stichting CARDSS.
Research
Her research focuses on adaptation to chronic illness, in particular cardiac disease. She developed and evaluated a self-regulation program for maintenance of lifestyle change after cardiac rehabilitation. For the Netherlands Heart Foundation, she developed a cognitive-behavioral program for cardiac patients focused on reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. For Cardiovitaal Cardiac Rehabilitation, she is currently developing and evaluating a blended form of care, where evidence-based face-to-face treatment is combined with a theory-based e-health tool for self-management.
